自転車原付バイク分かれ道

Hi there! I’m from Shima Rider Rental scooter, your friendly scooter rental shop between Onomichi and Imabari 😊Thank you for waiting—and yes, maybe we made you wait a little too long… sorry!

Our original Shimanami Kaido scooter route entrance map is finally ready!

You can find the photo guide map under the seat or in the box of each scooter, so please use it on your trip.

In this blog, our staff actually rode the route and honestly shares the easy-to-miss points, landmarks, and real feelings at each bridge entrance—with photos. If you’re planning to ride the Shimanami Kaido by scooter, please read to the end before you go. It will help you ride with confidence and without getting lost!

How to Use This Guide

  • We prepared Google Maps links for each bridge entrance.

  • Tap the link to open Google Maps.

  • Please choose “Car route” and start navigation. This works best for scooters on the Shimanami Kaido.

① Onomichi Bridge (Onomichi ⇄ Mukaishima)

Scooter toll: Free

Honest advice

Narrow and a bit dangerous. To be honest, we do not recommend riding a scooter here. There is a lot of car traffic, the road is narrow, and there are many merging points and curves before the bridge. It’s not a relaxing ride.

Best way to cross: Take the ferry!

You can ride this ferry with your scooter!

You can ride the ferry with your scooter from Onomichi to Mukaishima.

  • Price: 110 yen total (100 yen for you + 10 yen for your scooter, under 125cc)

  • Cash only

  • Runs every 15 minutes, 6:00–22:00

  • Ride time: about 5 minutes

It’s a short and special ferry ride with your travel buddy—your scooter! At night, you can enjoy the beautiful lights of the shipyards from the boat. So lovely ✨

Perfect for guests who start from Shima Rider Shin-Onomichi or want to visit Senkoji Temple by scooter.

② Innoshima Bridge (Mukaishima ⇄ Innoshima)

Scooter toll: 50 yen

You can ride under the highway, which is a rare and fun experience! Scooters and bicycles share the same path, so please ride slowly and safely.

  Mukaishima → Innoshima

向島→因島原付道入口

The entrance for bicycles and scooters is located at Tachibana Beach on Mukaishima.

If you are riding around Mukaishima counterclockwise, you will pass under the Innoshima Bridge first, and the entrance will be just after that point.

There is a big sign, so it should be easy to find!

因島⇒向島原付道入口

If you are coming from Ohama Innoshima Amenity Park (the park with the dinosaur statue) and riding clockwise, the entrance is on the left side after a small uphill slope.

Just like on the Mukaishima side, the entrance is shared by bicycles and scooters, so you won’t get lost. This one is simple and stress-free—perfect for first-time Shimanami Kaido scooter riders 🚲🛵

③ Ikuchi Bridge (Innoshima ⇄ Ikuchijima)

Scooter toll: 50 yen

Every time I cross from Innoshima to Ikuchijima, I can’t help thinking,

“Wow… this feels like Jurassic Park!”

(Just my personal feeling, haha. Anyone else feel the same? 🦖)

The area is full of trees and shade, and there are often fallen leaves. Because the ground can be wet and slippery, please ride slowly and carefully.

The entrance for pedestrians, bicycles, and scooters is the same at first, but partway along the route, scooters split off from pedestrians and bicycles, so please follow the signs.

   Innoshima → Ikuchijima

因島⇒生口島原付バイク入口

If you are riding around Innoshima counterclockwise, you will see the expressway entrance first. Scooters under 125cc are NOT allowed on the expressway, so please be very careful not to enter the wrong road.

The entrance for scooters and bicycles is on the left side after you pass the expressway entrance and go under the Ikuchi Bridge.

There is a sign, but honestly, it blends into the scenery and is easy to miss.

So after you go under the bridge, please keep an eye on the left side as you ride.

Key point for counterclockwise riders:

👉 “After going under the bridge.” This is the important timing!

④ Tatara Bridge (Ikuchijima ⇄ Omishima)

Scooter toll: 100 yen

On the bridge, scooters and bicycles/pedestrians use different lanes.Because scooters ride on the outer side of the bridge, it feels just like riding over the sea—an amazing Shimanami Kaido scooter experience 🌊

Important: When going from Omishima to Ikuchijima (Onomichi side), the scooter entrance is different from the bicycle/pedestrian entrance from the very start.

Please be careful and do not follow the bicycle route by mistake!

This entrance is very easy to find, so no worries!

If you are riding around the island counterclockwise, you will see the scooter & bicycle entrance just before the bridge.

In spring, the air smells softly of neroli flowers. In winter, you’ll see bright oranges and lemons—fresh vitamin colors everywhere 🍊🍋

This is such a “Shimanami Kaido” kind of road, and I personally love this part!

As mentioned above, the entrances for bicycles/pedestrians and scooters are different from the start on this side.

If you are riding around Omishima counterclockwise (coming from Hakatajima), pass Roadside Station Tatara Shimanami Park with it on your right side.

At the first intersection after you pass the roadside station, turn right.

In the photo, the blue path is the bicycle road, so if you are riding a scooter, please follow the arrow direction instead.

If you’re not sure where to go, tap the bridge entrance map, choose “Car route” on Google Maps, and follow the navigation. This is the easiest and safest way to find the correct Shimanami Kaido scooter route without stress 😊

⑤ Omishima Bridge (Omishima ⇄ Hakatajima)

Scooter toll: 50 yen

This is the shortest arch-shaped bridge on the Shimanami Kaido.

You cross it very quickly compared to the other bridges, but the sunset view is beautiful, so if you can, try to time it for the evening 🌅

大三島⇒伯方島原付バイク入口

If you are riding around Omishima clockwise, you will first see a small port.

You need to go along the road at the back on the right side of the port.

If it’s your first time, you might think, “Is this really the right way…!?” 😅

Totally normal—don’t worry!

Please set the navigation to “Car route” on Google Maps and trust it.

On the way, the road splits for scooters and pedestrians/bicycles, like in the photo.

If you are on a scooter, follow the arrow direction. Just before the bridge entrance, the scooter route joins the bicycle route again.

Key point:👉 Set the navigation and trust the route. This is the secret here!

On this side, scooters, bicycles, and pedestrians all use the same entrance, so it’s easy to find.

Simple and friendly—even first-time riders on the Shimanami Kaido by scooter can pass here with confidence 🛵✨

⑥ Hakata–Oshima Bridge (Hakatajima ⇄ Oshima)

Scooter toll: 50 yen

On this bridge, the entrances are separated from the start for scooters and for bicycles/pedestrians, just like in the photo.Especially on the Oshima side, the scooter entrance is in a different place from the bicycle and pedestrian entrance, so please be careful not to follow the wrong path!

伯方島⇒大島原付バイク入口

At the entrance, you will see a sign that clearly splits the way for“Scooters” and “Bicycles / Pedestrians.”

This sign is very unique to the Shimanami Kaido.

It’s a great spot to take a commemorative photo for your Shimanami Kaido scooter trip with your travel buddy (your scooter!) 📸🛵

On the Oshima side, the entrance for scooters is different from the entrance for bicycles and pedestrians, just like in the photo.

Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge (Oshima ⇄ Imabari)

Scooter toll: 200 yen

This bridge is probably the most iconic bridge on the Shimanami Kaido.

When people think of the Shimanami Kaido, this is often the image that comes to mind!

In the middle of the bridge, there is a small island called Uma Island, which you can reach only by scooter or on foot.

There is even an elevator you can ride with your scooter—such a special experience!

(We’ll share more about Uma Island in another article 😊)

  Oshima → Imabari

Google MAP:Tap Here

大島⇒今治原付バイク入口

If you are riding around Oshima clockwise, you will find the entrance just after you pass Roadside Station Yoshiumi Iki-iki-kan.

This entrance is easy to spot, so you probably won’t get lost here.

Very close to the entrance is Oshima Shirahama Beach, where you can take amazing photos with the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge, clear blue sea, sunny sky, and your travel buddy scooter all in one shot.

Highly recommended for a Shimanami Kaido scooter memory 📸

When heading from Imabari with Shima Rider rental scooter, there are no clear signs for the scooter route, so you might feel a little lost at first.

Please set the navigation above and choose “Car route” on Google Maps.

If you follow the car route, you will reach the correct scooter entrance.

Just before the entrance shown in the photo, you will see a blue bicycle lane with a “No scooters” sign. Do not go that way.

Instead, continue along the car route toward the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge.
